A total of 21 HDA Student Chapters participated this year in the 2010 Procter and Gamble Orgullo (Pride) Competition culminating with poster presentations at the HDA 18th Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. Winners were announced by P & G Representatives Lois Rigmont Barber and Edgar Rivera at the Gala Dinner on Saturday, October 30, 2010. During the Meeting, student posters were judged by a panel of impartial judges and rated on community outreach efforts which delivered dental screenings, Crest and Oral-B oral care products as well as oral and printed educational materials in both English and Spanish. Recruitment efforts for middle and high school students to encourage young Hispanics to strive for careers in dentistry were an integral part of the community education programs.
First, second, and third-place prizes were provided by Procter and Gamble Professional Oral Health. The winning chapters this year were: University of Iowa College of Dentistry (First Place); University of Maryland Dental School (Second Place); and University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (Third Place). Volunteer judges for this year’s competition were Ms. Carrie Fritz of DentaQuest, Ms. Juana Gissendanner of the National Dental Hygienists Association, and Mr. Jose Javier of Willamette Dental.
