The Division of Periodontology, Department of Oral Health and Diagnostic Sciences at The University of Connecticut Health Center invites applications to fill ONE or TWO full-time faculty positions at the Associate/Full Professor in residence level.

Key responsibilities: Faculty will be primarily responsible for clinical and diadactic teaching as well as administrative coordination and management of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral clinical training programs in Periodontology. Approximately 80% of the faculty time will be devoted to teaching and clinical program administration, with the remainder being dedicated to clinical research.

Preferred Experience: Special consideration will be given to candidates that have:

1)     Experience in leading a pre-doctoral or post-doctoral Periodontology training Program
2)     A background in clinical or translational research.

Minimum qualifications: The candidate should have at least 4 years teaching experience in Periodontology at the pre-Doctoral and post-Doctoral levels. The candidate should have advanced training in surgical Periodontics and Implant Dentistry and be eligible for Board Certification in Periodontology or be a Diplomate of the Board. Clinical Research experience as evidenced by relevant journal publications and extramural funding is highly desirable.

Works to establish and direct quality and compliance programs to monitor the delivery of dental care in accordance with accepted dental practice guidelines including maintaining continuity of care through Dental Clinic Policies and Procedures Manual. Participates in patient education opportunities to improve the health care status of our community patients.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited dental school and a current, unrestricted Texas dental license. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registrations for the purpose of writing prescriptions. Minimum of 2 yrs. experience providing direct patient care in a high volume dental practice. Management experience preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills strongly preferred.

Group Practice Faculty at College of Dental Medicine – Illinois  

The College of Dental Medicine-Illinois (CDMI) at Midwestern University is a new predoctoral dental education program located in suburban Chicago, IL.  CDMI is developing an innovative, integrated and patient-centered curriculum focusing on clinical excellence, critical thinking and ethical practice with an emphasis on oral health and the prevention and management of oral diseases in an evidence-based environment.

CDMI is seeking full-time clinical faculty to serve in the Group Practice student clinics at the rank of Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor to begin February, 2014.  Primary responsibility is for the overall well-being of the patients being treated.  The Group Practice faculty member also has responsibility for instruction and demonstration in one-on-one, small group and plenary settings.  The Group Practice faculty will supervise student dentists and provide direct patient care as required by the degree of difficulty of certain cases or for demonstration purposes.  There is an opportunity to engage in scholarly activity, as deemed appropriate and as mutually agreed upon by the Group Practice Faculty member and CDMI administration.

Candidates must possess a DMD/DDS degree, excellent clinical skills and at least three (3) years experience in dental practice and/or dental education. GPR or AEGD training is desirable.  This individual must be eligible for a license to practice dentistry in the state of Illinois or be eligible for a restricted faculty license. Multiple Faculty Positions in Mucosal Immunology/Microbiome-Host Interactions, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Colleges of Dentistry/Medicine/Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida.

The University of Florida is seeking applicants for multiple positions in mucosal immunology and microbiome:host interactions for a multidisciplinary program aimed at preeminence in the field. These recruits will interact closely with more than 17 funded scientists and physicians already working in this area at the University. Investigation of the interaction between the mucosal innate immune system and the local microbiome is especially attractive. The successful applicant may study any mucosal surface, from the oral cavity and nasopharynx through the gastrointestinal tract, or the lung and pancreas; applying innovative approaches and/or unique technologies. Innate, B or T cell immunobiology and metagenomic approaches to microbiome interactions are areas of emphasis, and the role of chronic inflammation of intestinal disorders and mucosa in oncogenesis would also fit well. The ideal candidate would be investigating an area that complements and enhances the basic and clinical expertise of the host colleges: Dentistry, Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine. The University of Florida has many existing collaborative opportunities and excellent infrastructure to support this initiative, including an extensive suite of cores (www.biotech.ufl.edu/) and gnotobiotic and zebrafish facilities. The University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD) is recruiting two part-time, non-tenure accruing Clinical Assistant/Associate Professors in the department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science, Hialeah Dental Center AEGD program in Hialeah, Florida. UFCD is recognized as one of the leading dental schools in the United States whose mission is to achieve excellence in the art and science of dentistry through teaching, research, and service.

The Assistant/Associate Professor and TEAM Leader for the Hialeah Dental Center AEGD Faculty assignment will be one of two leaders responsible for both clinical and administrative oversight of 12 first or second year foreign trained dentists in a CODA accredited AEGD program.

Qualified applicants must be comfortable supervising all disciplines of restorative dentistry including operative, fixed and removable prosthodontics and periodontics.  It will be expected that team leaders meet regularly with their TEAM for the purpose of patient care management, seminar teaching, case presentation and pertinent TEAM business.

In addition, team leaders will be expected to monitor:

  • Individual student clinical progress toward competency and graduation, as well as assuming the timely treatment of each patient and their needs
  • TEAM quality assurance to ensure that accurate chart notes and billings, post-treatment patient interviews, clinical evaluations, and patient recalls occur
  • Screening and treatment planning of new patients

The team leader will be expected to monitor TEAM clinical production and assist in containing costs and running an efficient, effective clinic.  You will report to the Director/Interim Director of the Hialeah AEGD in your capacity as a TEAM Leader.  This individual, with input from clinical department chairs, will be responsible for your annual evaluation.

This is a part-time (.5 FTE) tuition-funded position and is annually renewable based on continued funding.  Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s credentials and experience.

University of California San Francisco Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Full-Time Faculty Positions Search

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California in San Francisco is seeking to appoint two qualified individuals to full-time faculty positions at the assistant or associate professor level.  The appointment will be in the Professor of Clinical Oral and Maxillofacial or Ladder Rank series, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.

The selected candidate will spend at least 3 ½ days per week at the University of California San Francisco Parnassus Campus in teaching, clinical faculty practice, research and administration.  The remainder of the week may be spent in one of our other clinics at San Francisco General Hospital, the Buchanan Street Dental Clinic, or the shortly to be opened Mission Bay Hospital.  Teaching at both predoctoral and postdoctoral levels is required for these positions as is a research commitment.

The candidates selected must have completed an ADA-accredited training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery, or its equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure or special permit in the state of California.  Post-residency fellowship training would be considered an advantage for these positions, and the applicants with such training would be encouraged to make their fellowship training the focus of their clinical practice and research on the Parnassus campus, though they would be expected to carry out a broad scope of the specialty.  Salary will be commensurate with the level of the appointment.  The positions are  available commencing January 1, 2014.
