Exciting New Opportunity for Entrepreneurially Dental Students
For the first time the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA) and the Dr. Edward B. Shils Entrepreneur Fund will join with Dentsply Sirona to present the “Social Entrepreneur Experience.” This exciting new program will feature dental students vying to win funds for their social entrepreneur start up projects.
Final judging will take place on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM in Room 2 South Concourse of the Javits Convention Center as part of the HDA Annual Conference during the Greater New York Dental Meeting in New York City.
The panels of judges will include HDA leadership and Corporate entrepreneurs along with full interaction from the audience.
- Must be currently enrolled and in good standing with an accredited U.S. or Canada dental program.
- Must be able to travel to New York City for the event.
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills, significant interest in social responsibility in the dental industry, and articulate goals.
- Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Must be an innovative thinker.
In no more than 1,500 words create a document that features full name and contact details, brief synopsis of the project which targets and is designed to resolve a patient treatment or product challenge in the dental industry OR is focused on a dental industry related humanitarian program. PowerPoint/videos may be included. Documentation must include:
- how it can currently be used
- how can it be used moving into the future
- how it is different from what is available at this time
This project must be in start-up mode…in other words…ready to go.
Four applicants will be chosen to compete on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the HDA Annual Conference during the GNYDM. A $500 travel stipend will be given to the applicants to travel to New York City.

If chosen, you will have 5-7 minutes to “pitch” your project in New York. Presentations will be followed by two powerful keynote speakers who have faced adversity and have overcome using social good principles.
