HDA Leaders Accept ALS Ice Bucket Challenge 

HDA President Challenges National Hispanic Health Leaders to Join in Viral Awareness Campaign During HDA’s Annual Conference

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (August 24, 2014) – Hispanic Dental Association’s President Tyrone Rodriguez, DDS and other chapter leaders joined the viral challenge dumping a bucket of ice water to raise awareness and funds for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The challenge reached Dr. Rodriguez shortly after the completion of the 24th Annual Conference in Las Vegas and soon thereafter, colleagues, board members and chapter leaders joined in.

“I want to do this in honor of my father, Alvaro Valderrama, who died of ALS in 2006” said Dr. Pilar Valderrama, President of the North Texas HDA chapter, “Now, I want to challenge Dr. Tyrone Rodriguez to do this.” Along with Dr. Valderrama, Dr. Luis Yepes, Trustee of the Board,  Dr. Augusto Ruiz, PsyD, conference presenter, and Carolina Galeano, staff member took the plunge in support of the work by the ALS Association.

Dr. Rodriguez took the opportunity to challenge Dr. Ivan Lugo, Professional and Scientific Relations, Regional Manager for North America and Puerto Rico for Procter & Gamble and HDA Foundation board member as well as Dr. Elena Rios, President of the National Hispanic Medical Association.

2014 Colgate-Palmolive National Faculty of the Year Award
Aidee Nieto-Herman, DMD, MSD
Dr. Aidee Nieto-Herman, ’96 HDA President, received multiple nominations for Faculty Advisor of the Year, all of which highlight her many professional achievements from the past 20 years. She has been a constant support and inspiration in her student’s and advisee’s lives.

Ricardo Caicedo, DDS
Dr. Ricardo Caicedo is a committed and inspiring faculty advisor to the Hispanic Student Dental Association Chapter at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. His passion to serve the Hispanic community is evident to all who interact with him.
