WASHINGTON, DC. August 13, 2014— HDA is pleased to announce the Hispanic Dental Association Award Winners of 2014. This year’s award categories recognize faculty who are members of the Hispanic Dental Association, HDA professionals, community, corporate leaders and chapter leaders who have made a significant contribution toward enhancing the overall quality of oral health for the Hispanic population by extending themselves beyond the scope of their position. They are:

2014 Colgate-Palmolive National Faculty of the Year Award
Aidee Nieto-Herman, DMD, MSD
Dr. Aidee Nieto-Herman, ’96 HDA President, received multiple nominations for Faculty Advisor of the Year, all of which highlight her many professional achievements from the past 20 years. She has been a constant support and inspiration in her student’s and advisee’s lives.

Ricardo Caicedo, DDS
Dr. Ricardo Caicedo is a committed and inspiring faculty advisor to the Hispanic Student Dental Association Chapter at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. His passion to serve the Hispanic community is evident to all who interact with him.

In 2014, the Greater San Antonio Hispanic Dental Association has propelled forward in the arena of service-oriented dental outreach and its leadership focus on the community has created ripple effects. This is why GSAHDA has earned once again the prestigious recognition of National Professional Chapter of the Year.

Georgia Regents University – College of Dental Medicine chapter of HSDA has been very involved in their community and continues to exemplify the fundamental values that form the core of the mission of HSDA and HDA.

2014 HDA National Service Award
Christina Meiners, DDS
Dr. Christina Meiners serves as an advisor to GSAHDA. Dr. Meiners has shown through her hard work and dedication that she truly values giving back to the community, and has instilled that legacy in those whom she continues to advise.

2014 HDA & Healthy Start (A BHG Foundation) National Outstanding Dental Practitioner
Michael Lopez, DDS
Dr. Michael Lopez, a private practitioner and graduate from University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. He has made a difference in the lives of his students as a mentor.

2014 National Leader Award
Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard
Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard’s concern is for the health and the well-being of people across the country, with a focus on making sure women and children have the health care they need to flourish, fighting the exploitation that defines child labor, and helping pave a path for undocumented students to become educated citizens and achieve the better lives they dream of.

Joe Martin and his team work with the American Dental Association. One of the most satisfying aspects of his career had been working with dentists participating in the ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership, a year-long leadership development programs for dentists from diverse backgrounds.

During Jorge E. Rojas’ career as a Dental professional, he has developed and presented courses for students and other dental professionals, general practitioners and residents, combining his skills as a researcher, clinician, and advocate to share the wealth of this dental knowledge.
